Can you read this? In German-English legal translations, our word of the week is…

At first sight, most people (even German native speakers) probably misread the word "Ehegatteninnengesellschaft" (English meaning: inter-spousal undisclosed partnership; however, initially, one might think it says “association of wives”).

Obstacles in German-English legal translations, e.g. “Ehegatteninnengesellschaft” – Blog article by AP Fachübersetzungen from Nuremberg

This time, the word of the week of our translation agency from Nuremberg comes from the legal field: “Ehegatteninnengesellschaft” (to be read like this: Ehegatten-Innengesellschaft). Like our favourite word of last week, which came from the pharmaceutical field, most people probably misread this German word, when they see it for the first time. When it comes to the translation of legal documents, such as agreements, powers of attorney, court decisions, GTC, privacy policies and notarial contracts, small and sneaky obstacles appear regularly and require the translator to pay particular attention to the text.

Our Nuremberg-based translation agency will be happy to assist you with your legal translation from German into English and vice versa. Feel free to contact us!
